CELEBRATING 25 YEARS

Manuel DiasInto the year 2012 and with a new logo commemorating 25 years of sincere dedication and focus on pro audio, music production, stage sound, lighting and install sound markets in India, ‘Pro Sound Systems’ magazine continues its leadership role with the sole purpose of “Putting Technology in Place” and “Motivating the Market”.
From ‘Playback and Fast Forward’ to ‘Studio Systems’ and now into its own avatar since the last eight years, Pro Sound Systems’ efforts in disseminating knowledge to its readers on the evolution of pro audio has truly been newsworthy. From the early days of recording music on tape based analog machines, to an orchestra recorded live in a studio, to when the audio cassette ruled, to the introduction of the CD and DVD manufacturing lines, to the surfacing of line arrays in live sound, to the cautious embracing of digital technology, to the gradual and steady diversion of business into install sound for huge infrastructure projects, and a definite growing emphasis and importance of lighting in every sphere, the journey has been truly sensational, especially being amidst the whole technology revolution.
NAMM 2012 was truly awe inspiring with exhibit floors busy the entire four days, aisles filled with the trade community and professional musicians who had descended in Anaheim from across the world. An equally awe inspiring phenomenon will take place in Mumbai, India from 31 May to 2 June 2012. Welcome to the 12th edition of the PALM Expo and Musician Expo. Brace yourselves for a bigger, better and a comprehensive infotainment show. So be there.
In this issue, we bring to you an all exclusive article on ‘Sound Advice’, an important guide to refer to while investing into a live sound system. With inputs from reliable industry veterans, new entrants will find this piece of information truly valuable and would assist them in identifying the right systems for the numerous types of sound applications that they are catering to.
Another interesting read is the article with Alan Meyerson, one of Hollywood’s topmost music score mixer, who shares his belief in embracing digital technology and its importance, to sustain and still strive in the industry today. The article stresses on ‘thinking outside the box’ and experimentation with new techniques that makes the project sound unique.
Making its debut is the column titled ‘The Bright Spark’ by Viraaf Pocha, ace lighting designer, with leading Bridal Wear and Couture shows to his credit. Viraaf Pocha takes on the most important task to enlighten novices on the nuances of lighting design and sharing his experience and expertise gained on stage lighting, with our readers. Look forward to your feedback.
More updates on the MCAI as the association continues its drive to unite composers across the Indian music industry. Pro Sound Systems is indeed proud to back this initiative that prevents the exploitation of music composers and making them aware of their rights. An in depth description on the functioning of the MCAI, its achievements so far and its mission is updated in the article on page 58.
